I grew up in Hastings, East Sussex (yea, 1066 and all that) with my mum, until I was 19 when I left for university having begged for a place following terrible A’level results two years in a row. Following this, I moved to London where where I had a spectacularly average acting career that culminated in Peter Hall’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Glyndebourne Opera House. I was a TREE! I met my partner in 2003 and went on to have a career in social care across a variety of client groups that included people living with HIV, male sex workers, young people not in education or training, and finally homeless people at Guy’s & St Thomas’ hospital. But following a fatal trip to the States in 2007 camping and hiking the national parks, I started to write. It took me 10 years to find any discernible talent and ability at this. I didn’t have a natural born gift. But I loved it and I wanted it deeply. So, whatever it is that you want from life, don’t give up on your dreams. Life will always look to pull you away from them. DONT LET IT. Just keep going and take all the advice you can along the way. This is your life. Go get it!
